    Right to Information Act

    The Right to Information Act, 2005 empowers Indian citizens to seek information from public authorities, promoting transparency and accountability in government institutions.

    Objective of the RTI Act
    The RTI Act aims to: Promote transparency and accountability in government functions.
    Empower citizens by providing access to public information.
    Reduce corruption and improve governance.
    Ensure informed participation in democracy.
    How to File an RTI Application
    Any citizen can file an RTI application to request information from the department by following these steps:

    Prepare the Application:

    Write your request in English, Hindi, or the official language of the area.
    Clearly specify the information required.
    Submit the Application:

    Address it to the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the department.
    Pay the prescribed fee (varies as per government rules).
    Response Time:

    Within 30 days for general requests.
    Within 48 hours if it concerns life or personal liberty.

    Exemptions Under RTI
    Certain categories of information are exempted under the Act, including:

    National security and sovereignty-related matters.
    Information that affects the privacy of individuals.
    Cabinet papers and confidential government documents.
    RTI Fees and Payment Modes
    Application Fee: ₹10 (as per government rules).
    Additional Charges: ₹2 per page for photocopying, ₹50 per CD, etc.
    Payment can be made via cash, demand draft, or online payment (if available).
